Postgraduate Funding

If you are offered a place at the University and Emmanuel, you will need to obtain funding to cover both your fees and your living expenses. Without proof of your finances and any funding that you are receiving to support your studies, you will not be able to study at the University. It is recommended that you apply for several funding opportunities, and multiple funding sources will not negatively affect either your university application or any other funding you apply for. Please note that many scholarship and funding deadlines will need applications between 12–18 months in advance of the start of your course.

General funding opportunities

There are many funding opportunities for postgraduates applying to Cambridge, and we would encourage you to apply for the University's Postgraduate Funding Competition. This competition co–ordinates funding from a wide variety of sources including the Cambridge Trust, Gates Cambridge, ESRC and AHRC Research Councils, and other University funds.

What we can offer

Emmanuel offers various studentships and bursaries, awarded in conjunction with university funding. You might be awarded College funding if you are highly ranked in the University competitions, but narrowly miss being funded by the University. Unless you say on your application form that you will not be applying for funding, if you hold an offer from the College, you will be considered for our funding awards. Decisions from the College are communicated in May (for courses starting in September), after the Cambridge University Awards have been announced. In recent years the College has made awards totalling around £500,000 each year. A varying number of awards are made each year, depending on the funds available. Currently we support 13 PhD students at various stages of their course, and 7 Masters students.
